Vermont Bike and Brew Tours Meet the Brewer Series: Hill Farmstead

Sojourn pioneered bike and brew tours in their home state of Vermont over a decade ago. Since then, Vermont’s craft beer industry has already matched the $300 million economic impact of the state’s ski resort industry and is rapidly approaching the mark set by its iconic maple syrup industry. The Green Mountain state ranks first nationally in craft breweries per capita and none are more renowned, or remote, than Hill Farmstead.

For the third straight year, Hill Farmstead was bestowed the honor of “Best Brewery in the World” by RateBeer — widely regarded as the world’s most in-depth and accurate beer review/rating organization. Their mission of hand crafting succinct, elegant beers of distinction, as well as reviving and diversifying the land of the Hill Farmstead, has achieved astounding success. Thoughtful and creative founder (and brewer!), Shaun Hill, has made Hill Farmstead in Greensboro, Vermont the pinnacle of craft beer pilgrimages in the United States, if not the world.

Vermont Bike Tours Video

Vermont bike tours are our passion. This is our home. This is where we ride. And, this is where we have cycled every country road for a hundred miles in all directions. We are locals here and, for that reason, and all the others that make Sojourn special, we hold the distinction of having the most respected of all Vermont bike tours.

Sojourn’s main office is located in the heart of the Lake Champlain Valley, just a mile from the shores of the lake. It’s a prime location from which to host bike tours here and throughout the Green Mountain State. Our staff, all of whom are ardent cyclists, are intimately familiar with the finest country roads around – those that showcase the valley’s gorgeous scenery and reward cyclists with that often elusive feeling of freedom elicited from cycling over rolling terrain along country roads devoid of motorized vehicles (save the occasional tractor).

Easy Rides: Five Summer Bike Tour Favorites

It’s tough for our tour leaders to pick favorites rides from among all the great rides they lead however these five rides rank highly among their top easier rides of our summer bike tours. The criteria for selection as a favorite summer ride: great scenery, compelling points of interest, unique routing, and – naturally – gentle terrain.

Picking a favorite ride in gorgeous Acadia National Park isn’t easy however this ride is one of the most scenic and geographically diverse of all the spectacular rides we do in the park. Beginning in the town of Bar Harbor, the route begins along 10-miles of peaceful and vehicle-free carriage roads that pass by lakes, through woodlands, and over one of the park’s iconic granite bridges before arriving in small village of Northeast Harbor. After pausing to view harbor, follow the shore past the classic summer “cottages” leading to Somes Sound, a fjord-like body of water plied by sailboats and lobster fishermen alike. The Atlantic Brewing Company is a great place to relax over a blueberry shake or a cold beer before circling back to the inn in Bar Harbor.  20 or 37 miles
