Join us for an unforgettable active vacation in beautiful Southern California. Our Joshua Tree National Park Bike Tours & Active Vacations feature fabulous cycling routes, extraordinary hiking, and distinctive accommodations in Palm Springs and Borrego Springs. Summer rains portend glorious wildflower blooms in late fall while the combination of select accommodations and breathtakingly diverse scenery form the ideal framework for this exciting and unique tour.
Along with the striking Joshua Tree, for which this national park was named, Joshua Tree National Park features expansive vistas and unusual rock formations which draw climbers from around the world. Southern California’s towering San Jacinto Mountains form an impressive backdrop to the valley floor in Palm Springs, while the palm canyons of the Santa Rosa foothills where you will hike, provide shelter for herds of bighorn sheep.
Though Palm Springs had its heyday during the mid-twentieth century when it served as a fashionable getaway for movie stars and celebrities, the recent decade has seen a dramatic resurgence in popularity. The area’s Mid-Century Modern homes are fetching top dollar and downtown Palm Springs features a number of excellent restaurants, hotels, and a growing arts scene.
The region showcases towering mountain ranges and unusual desert landscapes which are highlighted throughout this tour. The cycling on this California bike tour includes options for both intermediate and avid cyclists, while the hikes are well suited to most anyone. Be as active as you desire or take some time to relax at the exceptional properties around which this trip has been designed.
Ride through several of the city’s famous neighborhoods such as Las Palmas, Little Beverly Hills, and Indian Canyon. Mid-Century Modern homes – including those of famous movie stars, entertainers, and politicians - have been meticulously updated. Enjoy a reception and dinner at esteemed Le Vallauris.
Experience strikingly beautiful Joshua Tree National Park. Ride through the Park, pausing to take photos of the huge and unusual rock formations against Southern California's brilliant blue sky. Continue along a downhill route through a winding box canyon. This evening, enjoy dinner al fresco at popular Spencer's in the Tennis Club Neighborhood.
Take a day off the bike to stretch your legs during a hike in Indian Canyon where native palms have thrived along a continuously flowing stream. Wind your way to a ridge which offers expansive views of surrounding peaks before descending for picnic lunch. Later in the day, relax by one of the pools at Korakia or stroll through artsy Palm Springs.
Visit the village of Old Town La Quinta and ride through the surrounding area which includes some of the most revered golf courses in the country. Golfers might even opt to forego the ride for a round on one of these beauties. Old Town features outdoor bistros, a coffee shop, craft brewery, and more.
Ride the quiet roads around Borrego Springs and view some of the more than 100, larger-than-life, metal sculptures created by a local artist. The sculptures punctuate the desert landscape which is framed by towering mountains. Tackle the challenging climb up Montezuma Grade, relax by the pool, or indulge in the spa of the resort.
Don your walking shoes for a hike along a boulder-strewn riverbed to one of the region's only native palm canyons. The contrast of the rugged desert stone and the green palm trees is striking. Boulders the size of houses cause the trail to wind back and forth. If we're fortunate, we'll see bighorn sheep along the way.
This Mediterranean-style pensione serves as the perfect location for secluded relaxation and experiencing all that the Palm Springs region has to offer. Originally built in 1924 as a retreat for a Spanish artist, the property has been lovingly restored and now includes nearly two acres of bungalows, guest houses, gardens and pools in the upscale and historic Tennis Club neighborhood. The New York Times calls Korakia “one of the sexiest hotels in America” and we couldn't agree more.Lodging Website
