Tour Overview

Maine's Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor

This bike trip in Maine reveals the best of Acadia, one of this nation’s smallest National Parks and one of its most scenic. We are in Bar Harbor, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Maine lobster bake at the historic Bar Harbor Inn, our home for the entire length of our stay. Cycle for miles along Acadia’s car-free Carriage Roads, crossing several iconic granite bridges to Northeast Harbor and Asticou Azalea Gardens. Ride on the one-way Park Loop Road, a biking favorite for its dramatic views of the outer islands, surf-sculpted coastline, and lobster boats. Cruise across Frenchman’s Bay to pedal through the small fishing villages and past the historic lighthouses of the Schoodic Peninsula. Get out on the water in a kayak, where you may encounter the local seals and seabirds. Tackle the gradual climb up Cadillac Mountain, whose summit reveals 360-degree views and is the highest point on the east coast, before biking to the Jordan Pond House for a treat of their signature popovers.

FAQs

  • Start & End: We start at the Bar Harbor Inn at 2:30 PM on Day 1. The trip concludes at the same location on the last day around 2 PM (depending on how long the ride takes you).
  • Meals: All Breakfasts and most dinners and lunches are covered. We leave a few evenings and afternoons open for you to explore the variety of restaurants in Bar Harbor. We strongly recommend a reservation for the restaurants you pick.
  • Routes: Although most of the riding is on the carriage trails we do sometimes share the road with traffic. Park regulations limit speed and so roads are very safe. The Carriage Roads are inaccessible to motor vehicles so you will not have access to the van during these segments. Regulations in the park further restrict the van from pulling over outside of designated areas.
  • Non-Biking Activities: There are many non-biking activities on this trip; a sunset sail, guided sea kayaking, hikes, and more. The hikes can at times be technical and strenuous. Proper footwear is strongly recommended.
  • E-Bike: Limited number of E-bikes are offered on a first come first serve basis.
  • Flexibility: Our trips are designed to be flexible, giving you the freedom to experience it the way YOU want. So if you want some downtime or to do things on your own, our leaders will work to find you the best days to do it.
  • Level of Riding: This is rated as an intermediate trip with relatively short rides with a decent amount of climbing. Riding distances vary with a day off to kayak and hike. Currently, the longest distance you can ride is 34 miles in a single day but once again you can choose to opt for as little as you ride.
  • Routing and Scheduling: The itinerary we provide can change on a certain day in terms of restaurant time, road closures, and weather conditions. Our leaders are fully trained at offering alternate plans and solutions. We seek your cooperation and promise to deliver the best vacation experience regardless.

Guest Reviews

“This trip exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed the non-biking activities as well. I think the whole trip was well designed to provide just the right amount of the diverse activities available in Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. “
