Tour Overview

Maine Bicycle Tour & Active Vacation

Cycling routes offer stunning views of the outer islands, surf-sculpted coastline, and lobster boats. Cruise across Frenchman’s Bay to ride through small fishing villages. Take to the waters under your own power during a guided kayak excursion. Sail on a Maine Windjammer. Hike to a granite peak with stunning 360˚ views. Experience all that this captivating region has to offer!

Acadia, our nation’s smallest National Park, is revered as one of the most scenic and beautiful of our national treasures. Situated primarily on Mt. Desert Island, the park is an incredible blend of rocky shoreline, dense forest, crystal clear lakes, waterfalls, and granite-domed hills. Schoodic Peninsula features small fishing villages and secluded bays that are quintessentially characteristic of rural seacoast Maine, while Bar Harbor is home to quaint cottages that blend into beautiful views of the sound.

Maine: Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor Bike Tour MapUnwind in an ocean view room with your own private porch just a stone’s throw from the water. This peaceful and relaxing location is just a block from the charming shops and restaurants in the town of Bar Harbor. Open the door to Acadia and immerse yourself in the magic and majesty of one of the most beautiful places in the world on this Maine bike tour.

Tour Itinerary

  • Day
    1

Meet at the historic Bar Harbor Inn and enjoy an afternoon ride to a scenic overlook where views extend to a lighthouse and beyond. This evening, enjoy a traditional Maine Lobster Bake on the terrace of the inn with stunning oceanfront vistas.

  • Day
    2

Experience the life and work of Bar Harbor’s lobstermen (or lobsterwomen!) on a lobster boat excursion. The one-way Park Loop Road is a cyclist’s dream. Spin through lush forest before emerging on the dramatic coast. This magnificent road provides expansive views of the ocean along pink granite shorelines.

  • Day
    3

Cycle for miles on Acadia’s automobile-free Carriage Roads. Cross several signature granite bridges on your way to Northeast Harbor and Asticou Azalea Gardens. Pause to watch lobstermen haul their traps from the crystal clear waters of Somes Sound. Relax during a sunset sail on a Maine Windjammer

  • Day
    4

Cruise across Frenchman’s Bay to Schoodic Peninsula. Ride the shoreline so close to the sea that you can feel the spray from the surf. Continue through authentic fishing villages and past historic lighthouses. For a touch of nostalgia, visit the Winter Harbor 5 and 10.

  • Day
    5

Begin your day with a guided kayak excursion. While paddling these sturdy boats during the calm morning hours, you are likely to encounter seals and sea birds. Join your tour leaders for an afternoon hike featuring spectacular views of the surrounding islands.

  • Day
    6

Enjoy a spin on the carriage trails or along the coast before arriving at the Jordan Pond House to enjoy their signature popovers on the lawn. Those up for a challenge can tackle the gradual climb up Cadillac Mountain. Your reward is the 360-degree view of the surrounding islands and rugged coastline from the highest point on the east coast — a final highlight before the tour concludes.

" This trip exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed the non-biking activities as well. I think the whole trip was well designed to provide just the right amount of the diverse activities available in Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. "

Karen Grunawalt

" The trip was fabulous. There were different levels of rider expertise and everyone was fully supported by the leaders. Such a great Bar Harbor/Acadia experience with the scenery and food."
