Guest Reviews
“We really loved all of it and can’t think of anything to improve. The routes were very well designed and picturesque, the on-road picnics were gourmet and delicious, and the nice long stay at that spacious, serene Haufman Haus in Fredericksburg was so relaxing. You did a great job accommodating riders of various abilities and including time for hiking, sightseeing, etc. Thank you! “

“I loved it all. Hoffman Haus was amazing-the people there made us feel like family and I didn’t want to leave. I wouldn’t change anything. Every day was special, not only due to the scenery, but our guides (the heart of the trip) and the people we now call our friends too. “

DAY BY DAY
Texas Hill Country Bike Tour
Begin your Texas bike tour at the Omni La Mansión del Rio, overlooking the River Walk in downtown San Antonio. Spend your afternoon visiting famous historic sites like The Alamo, El Mercado, and La Villita. Join the group for a reception and welcome dinner at Omni’s Wine Spectator award-winning restaurant.
Mission Trail and San Antonio: Ride San Antonio’s Mission Trail, now considered one of the finest bike paths of its kind in the US. This paved trail follows a beautifully restored watershed and leads to several old Spanish missions. Following the ride along the Mission Trail, we meet up for lunch. This evening, explore the sites in San Antonio – almost everything is within easy walking distance of the hotel.
Head for the Hills: This morning we travel to the tiny town of Sister Creek, where your Hill Country biking begins. Lightly traveled roads through sprawling ranchland and past cypress-lined creeks offer a glorious introduction to this beautiful region of Texas. Take in the beauty of the mystical Guadalupe River before winding your way north to Luckenbach, whose country music fame was sealed years ago when country music legend Jerry Jeff Walker made the song Back to the Basics of Love popular. Today’s ultimate destination is the town of Fredericksburg, where German immigrants settled. Hoffman Haus, our home for the next four nights is a lovely property that is the essence of rustic sophistication. Gather for an intimate dinner at the inn tonight.
Willow City Loop: Our ride begins in Fredericksburg and winds for miles along roads so lightly traveled you might feel like riding on a bike path. Willow City Loop is a narrow and winding valley road that penetrates some of the densest concentrations of bluebonnets in the area. In addition to bluebonnets, various lupine, paintbrush, and other brightly colored wildflowers punctuate the landscape. Post lunch, You may visit the fabulous Museum of the Pacific War this afternoon, just a short walk from the Hoffman Haus. Dinner this evening is at one of our favorite local restaurants.
Follow the Creek to Comfort: Today’s ride leads to the charming town of Comfort. Much of the town’s downtown area is a National Historic District and contains the most authentic 19th-century business district in all of Texas. This ride is often a guest favorite as it follows creeks for much of the route, including a beautiful section along aptly named Cypress Creek. Post lunch, join your leaders on an optional hike up a giant granite dome punctuating the landscape. The bald-topped Enchanted Rock offers a unique perspective of the Hill Country topography and is a bit of a geologic wonder. This evening, choose from any fine options in town for dinner.
Today’s ride leads east to Stonewall and the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. Nestled among oak trees along the Pedernales River banks is the Johnson family’s homestead and ranch, which produced our nation’s 36th President. You might also visit the Texas White House and admire LBJ’s old Air Force One. Folks often wonder how the plane got to its current home, but if you search for it, you’ll notice a runway cleverly tucked in an inconspicuous location in the center of the ranch. Your tour leaders will prepare a delicious picnic lunch overlooking the ranch and the Pedernales River, where you can relax as the gentle waters flow past. Dinner this evening will be a grand occasion as you will be the guests of delightful local hosts in town.
Pecan Creek Ride – A ride along rolling roads through rural ranchlands is on tap for the morning, often following Pecan Creek. This loop takes us through some quiet backroads, eventually leading us back into Fredericksburg. Following lunch in town, we will transport you to the airport in San Antonio.
