For more than a decade now, Sojourn has been a leader and a pioneer in developing the Southern Arizona Bike Tour in Sonoran Desert and Saguaro National Park as one of the most acclaimed bike trips in the country. Outside Magazine recognizes Sojourn’s Southern Arizona bike trip as a “life-list-worthy tour” featuring miles of fabulous cycling through the Sonoran Desert that leads to a quaint artsy border town of Tubac.
After 14 years, it was time to refresh the routes, explore deeper into a region known for its jaw dropping vistas and cycle lovers’ routes, and take a leap in expanding this outstanding destination! No one was better qualified for the job than Rob Broadfoot, Sojourn’s veteran Leader, who retired to Arizona this past year.
Respected and adored by guests and staff alike, Rob led 95 trips with Sojourn, including this particular tour, a region he calls “magical”. It was the love of this region that led him to settle down in the small Arizona town of Patagonia almost six years ago. Prior to Sojourn, Rob had a stellar career as a ski and soccer coach that culminated with coaching at the National Sports Academy at Lake Placid. His knowledge of what he describes as a “magical place with year round riding,” and a penchant for seeking out the most exciting and undiscovered routes, led to the development of the redesigned Southern Arizona Bike Tour with the addition of new and unexplored riding routes and a unique bird-watching walk in the Patagonia Lake State Park.
Revel in the new tour additions to Saguaro National Park and Sonoran Desert, centered around an exhilarating ride to the Patagonia Lake State Park where you indulge in an exclusive picnic lunch on the banks of sapphire blue Patagonia Lake. Post lunch, take an avian adventure with a professional birdwatcher, spotting the elusive northern cardinals, vermilion flycatchers, and red-tailed hawks, or opt for an epic ride to Tubac! Visit the lively town of Tubac, a popular southwestern artisan colony, and ride to beautiful and remote Pena Blanca Lake and Arivaca. Southern Arizona’s Sonoran Desert is framed by rugged mountains and features open vistas filled with an abundance of cacti and native wildlife. The region is also home to sprawling cattle ranches and rural roads where you’re more likely to encounter cows than motorized vehicles. These open vistas inspire a sense of freedom and “get away from it all” rejuvenation.
