Hobbies and interests: Fundraising for hospitals by doing long distance bike rides; just about all land and water sports especially cycling, waterskiing, sailing, alpine skiing; and reading – with a particular focus on Canadian history.
Favorite rides: Sojourn’s Canadian tours: Burlington to Quebec City, Ontario’s Wine Country in the Niagara Region, Ottawa to Montreal. As well, his personal playground that includes the many hills and valleys of the Mt. Tremblant region of the Laurentian Mountains
Current bikes: Cannondale Super Six for beautiful long distance summer cycling; Giant OCR 1 for indoor winter training; Raleigh Mountain Bike for off road and winter cycling; Raleigh tandem.
Bio: Mark began his career as a High School Math and Science teacher and, whenever possible, taught Physical Education and coached his High School ski teams, football teams and badminton teams. Mark was also a residential Summer Camp Director in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec and a Ski School Director for the largest touring ski school in Eastern Canada.
On Sojourn tours, Mark fulfills his passion for education by providing guests with information about the rich history of Canada with a specific focus on the history and culture of La Belle Province du Quebec. Mark is fluently bilingual with English as his first language and also enjoys helping guests “play with French.”
As an avid cyclist all his life, Mark has recently completed his fifth major fundraising ride. In 2009, Mark cycled 250 km (155 miles) per day traversing Canada to raise funds for pediatric oncology units.
Mark feels blessed to live life to its fullest each day and passionately shares his joie de vivre (joy of life) with guests. Carpe diem is probably Mark’s favorite expression.
