Join us on a captivating three-day bike tour on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail – the longest rail trail in New England, through Vermont’s stunning landscapes, starting at Swanton Beach with breathtaking views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains. Cycle along the Rail Trail, visit the award-winning Smuggler’s Notch Distillery in Jeffersonville and unwind at the luxurious Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe.

When Riding on Rail Trails, it helps to know...

  • Start & End: We start and end in Burlington, Vermont.
  • Meals: All Breakfasts and most dinners and lunches are covered. We leave a few evenings and afternoons open for you to explore the variety of local restaurants. We strongly recommend a reservation for the restaurants you pick.
  • Bikes on this tour: We will be using thicker tires on our bikes for this trip, similar to what we use on our other trail trips. Please call us if you have any questions about the bikes we will use.
  • E-Bikes: A limited number of E-bikes are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Flexibility: Our trips are designed to allow you to experience them how you want. So, if you want some downtime or to do things on your own, our leaders will work to find you the best days to do them.
  • Level of Riding: This is rated as an Easy tour.
  • Routing and Scheduling: Our itinerary can change on a certain day due to restaurant hours, road closures, and weather conditions. Our leaders are fully trained to offer alternate plans and solutions. We seek your cooperation and promise to deliver the best vacation experience regardless.

DAY BY DAY

Vermont Lamoille Valley Rail Trail Bike Tour

DAY 1

Welcome to Vermont’s Lamoille County! We will meet you in Burlington and drive to Swanton Beach for a delightful picnic lunch and bike fitting. Following lunch, get on your bike to ride 33 miles along the scenic Lamoille County Rail Trail’s dedicated bike path. A stop in Jeffersonville allows us to visit the Smuggler’s Notch Distillery and sample award-winning spirits before a short drive to Stowe. Your home for the trip will be Stowe’s Topnotch Resort and Spa- One of New England’s and Vermont’s premier luxury resorts, nestled on a hillside with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s tallest peak. Relax and enjoy the heated outdoor pool, sauna, and beautiful views of the mountains. Tonight, join your fellow travelers and Sojourn team for a welcome dinner at Topnotch Resort with a Green Mountain Ridge Line backdrop.

DAY 2

Following breakfast, your rail trail adventure continues as we ride from Joe’s Pond to Morrisville. Joe’s Pond in West Danville was a railroad stop that allowed residents and tourists recreational access to fishing and camping. Today’s ride starts at Joe’s Pond and follows the Lamoille River as you wind through farmland and small villages like Hardwick, known for its scenery, organic meats, and produce. We stop at the famed Lost Nation Brewery on the Rail Trail for lunch. Tonight’s dinner features some of Vermont’s best farm-to-table dining with European-inspired dishes at the Trapp Family Lodge of Sound of Music fame!

DAY 3

Following breakfast at Topnotch Resort, enjoy a short ride on Stowe’s Mountain Road Bike Path into Stowe’s charming and picturesque village. There, you’ll have the opportunity to shop at the stunning town’s local artisans and vendors before starting today’s ride from Morrisville to Jeffersonville. Today’s ride will be along the Lamoille River from Morrisville to the picture-perfect town of Jeffersonville through farms and forests, canopies of maple trees, and quaint Vermont’s old railroad bridges. Guests and the Sojourn team will enjoy a farewell lunch at Vermont’s Favorites – Folinos Pizza and Fiddlehead Brewery, followed by drop off at Burlington airport.
