Tour Overview

Two Canadian Provinces in One Trip

Our unique, point-to-point Ottawa bike tours run from Canada’s Capital City of Ottawa to the vibrant international city of Montreal in French speaking Quebec. Ottawa is considered the third cleanest city in the world – perhaps in part because of the more than 110 miles of fabulous bike paths that crisscross it. For 2017, we feature a tour in May when the city’s parks are in full bloom during famous the Canadian Tulip Festival.

Ottawa rolls out its best on Sundays when beautiful parkways are open only to bicycles and inline skaters (this is Canada after all!). Spin through the traffic-free streets, visit Parliament Hill, explore lively Byward Market, or cross the Ottawa River to ride the popular Gatineau Park road bike loop – free of vehicular traffic.

As you wind your way east, the scenery along the Ottawa River quickly transforms to open farm fields sprinkled with sheep and dairy farms. An exclusive two-night stay at the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello, a historic hand hewn log lodge, offers luxurious relaxation in a peaceful country atmosphere.

Follow bike paths along the Ottawa and St. Lawrence Rivers into Montreal, one of the world’s top cities for cycling with over 300 miles of bike paths. Enjoy a guided walking tour of Old Montreal then explore the boutiques outside the chic St-Sulpice Hotel nestled deep within this historic neighborhood. Those interested might enjoy a ride up Mt Royal which features fabulous views of the city and surrounding waterways.

Tour Itinerary

  • Day
    1

Meet your tour leaders in Burlington, VT for the drive to Ottawa. Tour Canada’s Capital City on its extensive network of bike paths and observe boats navigating the locks on the Rideau Canal. The impressive Parliament Building, Canada’s government seat, looms above the skyline and gives the city a European feel.

  • Day
    2

On Sundays, Ottawa and neighboring Gatineau close their scenic parkways to motor vehicles and open them to bicycles and in-line skaters. Choose an easier riverside loop or ride the challenging Gatineau Park loop, all free of vehicular traffic — two lanes, one-way, bicycles and skaters only! Visit Canada’s National Gallery, tour the Parliament and stroll to historic Byward Market for dinner.

  • Day
    3

Wind your way on a bike path along the Ottawa River as you leave the city and ride into rolling farmland. Until 4000 years ago, the Ottawa River drained waters from the upper Great lakes into the St. Lawrence River. Cross the river by ferry to the Fairmont Montebello, the largest log cabin in the world and a structure that boasts a fascinating history.

  • Day
    4

Relax and indulge in the array of amenities at the Chateau Montebello or choose from a selection of loop rides through the surrounding countryside. The country estate type ambiance of this amazing log structure is the perfect place to relax with a massage or spa treatment, a swim in the pool, a game of tennis, or a good book.

  • Day
    5

Follow country roads and through small villages to a small town famous for its prior brick-making prowess. Visit antique shops and enjoy a picnic lunch at a small, family-run microbrewery where you can sample their signature Lug Tread Lagered Ale (think tractor). This evening, dine in the Auberge’s highly regarded restaurant featuring gourmet regional cuisine.

  • Day
    6

The Ottawa River meets the St. Lawrence today as you wind your way to bike paths leading into the city of Montreal, culminating on a beautiful bike path along the historic Lachine Canal. Explore the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal before dinner at one of the City's finest restaurants.

  • Day
    7

Begin your day with a local guide who will lead a walking tour of the many historic sites within walking distance of the St Sulpice. Following the walking tour, continue your exploration on foot or join your guides for a ride up Mt Royal which features wonderful views from the top. Following lunch, the group will transfer back to Burlington.
