Tour Overview

The Ultimate Summer Cycling Getaway

Sojourn pioneered bike and brewery tours in Vermont nearly a decade ago as Vermont’s craft beer grew to become world renowned. The Green Mountain state ranks first in the US for the number of craft breweries per capita and perhaps none is more famous or remote than Hill Farmstead. This small, limited production brewery, and it’s brewer, have been ranked among the top five in the world for the past four years. A ride through beautiful rolling countryside leads you here to this idyllic setting for a picnic lunch and private tasting.

With our local knowledge and access to the top brewers in our home state of Vermont, Sojourn offers an unmatched experience. Our Vermont Bike and Brewery tour showcases scenic country roads, iconic covered bridges, and rolling fields of green. Creative young entrepreneurs are returning centuries-old family farms to viable agricultural use. Small organic farms and specialty producers have grown in concert with the craft beer movement in Vermont, creating a strong local foods culture.

Strong intermediate and avid cyclists will appreciate the country road rides over Vermont’s undulating terrain, and will enjoy a refreshing cold one at the end of each day’s rides. We’ve crafted routes that include some of Vermont’s top accommodations to best compliment your experience on the trail of the world’s finest craft beer.

Join us for an amazing ride this summer in the Green Mountain State! If you’re interested in a recent insider perspective from a Sojourn guest, read Andy Mockler’s review of his experience with us in 2016 Vermont Bike and Brewery Tour.

Tour Itinerary

Day By Day Tour Overview.

  • Day
    1

Ride south along a lightly traveled route through the Champlain Valley, pedaling through rolling farmland. After your first beer tastings of the week, settle in to the Swift House Inn. This evening, the brew team from one of Vermont's most respected craft breweries joins us for dinner, a Q&A about Vermont craft beer, and some tasty samples.

  • Day
    2

Today’s ride dips and climbs along the eastern slopes of the Green Mountains before a winding descent. Admire the historic Round Church before following the river to Waterbury, one of our nation’s top rated towns for craft beer. Head north to Topnotch in Stowe where the group will gather for a private tasting of a selection of Vermont's finest limited production beers.

  • Day
    3

Country roads wind through farmland along the gradual climb to Vermont's iconic Northeast Kingdom. Enjoy a picnic lunch and private tasting at esteemed Hill Farmstead Brewery. Continue to the Inn at Mountain View Farm which features expansive views from a peaceful setting. On clear summer evenings stargazing is a favorite pastime around the fire pit.

  • Day
    4

Choose from several options during today's layover at the Inn at Mountain View Farm. Tops on the list is a half or full day of mountain biking on the famed Kingdom Trails, often referred to as the Moab of the East. Those who prefer to stick to the pavement will enjoy a loop ride that concludes at Vermont's only outdoor bar - one that caters to cyclists due to its location and numerous local beers on tap.

  • Day
    5

Today’s ride leads north to Newport on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. Visit the Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center to sample local Vermont products ranging from ice cider to maple syrup. Cross the spine of the Green Mountains and finish with a rewarding downhill run to the inn. The swimming hole in a secret location on the river behind the inn beckons! This classic New England inn has been tastefully updated and serves fresh local fare.

  • Day
    6

Ease into the day with rolling ride that's followed by a 10-mile downhill run. Cross one of Vermont's most beautiful covered bridges to ride a scenic rail trail as it follows a winding river to Lost Nation brewery. Enjoy a selection of beer samples during lunch on the patio. Following showers in Stowe, you will be transported to Burlington at the conclusion of your trip.
