Tour Overview

The Finger Lakes of New York

Home to breathtaking scenery and world class wineries, Sojourn's Finger Lakes bike tours feature gorgeous rolling terrain that showcases expansive farmland, vineyards and narrow fingers of the lakes for which the region is named. Charming small towns offer luxurious accommodations, fine dining, and specialty products. Immerse yourself in the premier accommodations and gourmet cuisine of the region Wine Spectator magazine called “the wine and culinary epicenter of New York.”

Yates County is the largest grower of wine grapes outside of California, boasting over 5,000 acres of lush vineyards. Rows of hillside vineyards frame the lakes with a changing array of textures and colors. Formed millions of years ago by glacial activity, the Finger Lakes support a region rich in both geologic and cultural history. Ride beside the Erie Canal and through the picture book farmland of Mennonite communities.

Tour Itinerary

Day By Day Tour Overview.

  • Day

Ease into the week with an easy ride along the Erie Canal. This historic waterway opened in 1825 and helped fuel migration into the American west. The full Canal is 363 miles in length and connects the Hudson River with the Great Lakes. Enjoy a reception featuring wines of the Finger Lakes before dinner at the inn.

  • Day

Bluffs between the north-south running lakes feature expansive farmland and fabulous cycling. Roads are lightly traveled through miles of beautifully kept Mennonite farms where horse and buggy or bicycles are the most popular forms of transportation. Walk through a stunning gorge or enjoy a cruise on the lake before sunset.

  • Day

Ride through rural farmland en route to Ithaca and scenic Cayuga Lake. Stop for lunch at the farmer's market in Ithaca. Several country wineries beckon a visit along the route to the charming village of Aurora. Relax on the porch or lawn overlooking the lake, or grab a paddle and explore the lakeshore before dinner in the inn’s award-winning dining room.

  • Day

If more riding is on your list, short and long options are available including a beautiful ride with expansive views. Visit MacKenzie-Childs – the main showroom and original estate of the whimsical home decor manufacturer. Porches and sitting areas of the inn are just perfect for unwinding overlooking Cayuga Lake.

  • Day

Ride east to the town of Skaneatles at the north end of the lake that bears its name. The upscale village features shops and eateries, a lovely waterfront park, and narrated cruises on Skaneatles Lake. Enjoy an afternoon ride, time to explore town, or indulge in a massage or spa at the inn. A final group reception and dinner will be held in the inn’s acclaimed dining room.

  • Day

The final ride of the week is one of our favorites. Follow the lakeshore south through verdant farmland as the route winds along the valley floor. Enjoy a leader hosted picnic lunch at a sculpture garden as you wrap up the week. You will be transferred to the airport in Syracuse in the afternoon.
