One of the top Fall Foliage bicycle tours in New England, this trip includes a combination of our award-winning Lake Champlain Valley tour and the region around Stowe. Stowe is best known as the Ski Capital of the East, but it maintains picturesque beauty year-round. The trip begins with three days of cycling in the Champlain Valley before winding north and east to Stowe for three days. The striking red, glowing orange, and vibrant yellow fall foliage colors lining the route are among the most spectacular in Vermont and all of New England.
Ride through several of Vermont’s timeless covered bridges and visit the Old Round Church. Sample homemade cider and donuts at a local orchard. Enjoy a taste of one of Vermont’s famed IPAs from a small craft brewery or sample award-winning vodka from the top distiller in the US. Fill the support van with woolens from a family mill that’s been in operation since the mid-1800s. Bike the narrow route through the cliffs of Smuggler’s Notch, so named for its role in the passage of illicit goods during Prohibition.
Accommodations feature charming country inns and a small luxury resort. This trip offers an exclusive and exquisite stay and dinner at The Inn at Shelburne Farms (However, for the trip starting Oct 7th, we will stay at Topnotch Resort & Spa at Stowe instead of The Inn at Shelburne Farms for this night. This will allow us to explore deeper into peak Vermont Foliage.). Unwind in the casual comfort of a historical Vermont treasure and luxuriate in an intimate hillside oasis. Vermont has an extensive network of organic and local food producers and tour meals will include the freshest of these local ingredients.
Ride gentle terrain through picturesque rural farmland. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the town green of a classic New England village perched above a waterfall. Pass through one of Vermont’s signature covered bridges.
Ride through one of the longest covered bridges in Vermont then stop to visit shops in a small village. Relax during a picnic on a scenic lakeshore or opt for a short hike to a waterfall. Challenge yourself on the optional climb to the top of Middlebury Gap for incredible views and a thrilling descent.
Visit the beautiful University of Vermont Morgan Horse Farm for a private tour and introduction to some of the prized horses bred here. Ride through rural countryside to a festive orchard for cider and donuts. Explore the aisles in the country store before arriving at Shelburne Farms, a magnificent lakeside estate and working farm.
Wind your way along a beautiful rolling route featuring expansive views. Visit the historic Round Church and follow the river through a break in the Green Mountains. Stop for coffee at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters or visit Cold Hollow Cider Mill before heading for Stowe and luxurious Topnotch Resort.
The biggest ride of the week climbs through spectacular Smuggler’s Notch and pays reward with a lengthy descent from the top. Pass through small towns featuring specialty producers of spirits, woolens, and beer as you loop back to Stowe for a fabulous farewell dinner.
