Ride through Vermont’s signature covered bridges, past views of white church steeples, on quiet country lanes with the lush Green Mountains in the background along the stunning scenery of rural Southern Vermont from Manchester to Woodstock on this Southern Vermont bike tour. Visit Dorset, where the initial plans to make Vermont the fourteenth state was forged and ride to Rupert, the town that produced Vermont coppers, Vermont’s official currency until its admittance into the United States. Make a mandatory stop at the unique Vermont Country Store in Weston on your way to Woodstock. Opened in 1946, the Country Store was the first restored rural general store in the nation. History buffs will love guided tours of museums and historic Vermont properties.

    1

    Arrive at the luxurious Equinox Resort, where we stay for the next two nights. Take a short warm-up ride to the historic Hildene Home, the former residence of Abraham Lincoln’s only surviving son, Robert. Enjoy a private guided tour of this Georgian Revival mansion, accompanied by the sound of a 1,000-pipe Aeolian organ and a stroll through the gorgeous gardens. Dinner tonight will be at one of Equinox’s own restaurants, offering some of the finest steak and seafood in the Northeast.

    Discover the history of Dorset, on this morning’s ride, famously known as the town where the initial plans to make Vermont the fourteenth state was forged. Stop at a classic Vermont village near the New York border for a delicious picnic lunch, and later visit Rupert, the town that produced Vermont coppers, Vermont’s official currency until its admittance into the United States.

    Visit the unique Vermont Country Store in Weston on your way to the charming town of Woodstock, Vermont this morning. Opened in 1946, the Country Store was the first restored rural general store in the nation. Once in the store, step back in time and enjoy a leisurely stroll down memory lane for goodies that once existed but are no longer offered anywhere in the country. Check into the historic Woodstock Inn for the next three nights. Later, take a short hike up beautiful Mt. Peg for a wonderful panoramic view of the Ottauquechee River Valley. Tonight, visit the glassblowing studio of legendary artist Simon Pearce. Dinner is at the Simon Pearce restaurant, voted one of “America’s Most Romantic Restaurants” by Travel and Leisure!

    Today, ride past the Quechee Gorge and along the stunning Ottauquechee River. Stop for lunch and beer tastings at Harpoon Brewery.

    5

    Prepare for a beautiful ride through a series of charming Vermont towns. Take some time to explore the artisan craft shops and locally made treats that are part of the sights and smell along the way. Cycle through some of Vermont’s iconic covered bridges. Tonight’s farewell dinner is at the Woodstock Inn’s AAA Four Diamond Award-winning restaurant.

    6

    Your final day concludes with a tour of the Billings Farm and Museum, regarded as one of the finest outdoor history museums in the country. The museum offers a wonderful look into rural New England culture and the history of the Green Mountain State. Return to Woodstock Inn to freshen up before heading out.
