Tour Overview

Bike Natchez Trace: Jackson | Natchez | Vicksburg

Our Natchez Trace bike tour begins and ends in Jackson, the state capital of Mississippi. The trip is centered around the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 440-mile route steeped in history that is now part of the National Park System, with many historical sites along the way to pause and catch your breath. The peaceful Natchez Trace Parkway – a well-paved limited access highway with very little traffic, no cross traffic or traffic lights, and no commercial traffic, is a cyclist’s paradise. The Mississippi Sojourn Mississippi Natchez Trace Bicycle Tour Route MapRiver Trail, where we ride, is a designated bicycle route network that parallels the length of the Mississippi River on this Natchez Trace cycling trip.

You will also enjoy trips off the Trace to nearby Vicksburg, one of the most historic and pivotal locations of the Civil War, with stopovers in Natchez and Jackson. Tour Antebellum mansions that date back to the Civil War discover the deep roots of this region on visits to monuments and historic sites, savor some of the south’s most delectable cuisine and enjoy the famed “Southern Hospitality.” Welcome to Mississippi!

  • Start & End: We pick you up from the Hampton Inn Jackson/Flowood at 8:45 AM or the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers Airport (JAN) at 9 AM. At the end of the trip, we drop you off at the same airport at 1 PM.

  • Meals: All breakfasts and lunches are covered, and most dinners are as well. We leave a few evenings open for you to explore the variety of restaurants in the area. We strongly recommend a reservation for the restaurants you pick.

  • Shuttle:  In order to offer you the best of the area on a trip, we sometimes have to make use of shuttles. At the start of the trip, there is a 2-hour shuttle to get from Jackson to Natchez.

  • Accommodations: Our accommodations on this trip are simpler and more casual than you may have experienced on previous trips. However, they are the best hotels in the area and feature history and Southern charm.

  • Routes: Although most of the riding is on the Trace, where traffic is regulated, there are segments on public roads where you might encounter cars and commercial traffic. While it is not busy outside of towns and cities, we encourage guests who feel nervous to get in the van. This is a loop tour, so the trip does not follow the trace all the way to Nashville.

  • Non-Biking Activities: A guided tour of the Vicksburg National Military Park is included in the trip. You can choose to do mansions tours and visit various museums on the route.

  • E-Bike: Limited number of E-bikes are offered on a first come first serve basis.

  • Van support: There are a few longer ride days and you can choose to ride as much or as little as you want. Our vans are always there to offer you a break.

  • Flexibility: Our trips are designed to be flexible, giving you the freedom to experience it the way YOU want. So if you want some downtime or to do things on your own, our leaders will work to find you the best days to do it.

  • Level of Riding: This is rated as an easy/intermediate trip with a few rolling hills. Riding mileages vary with the longest daily distance being 58 miles, but once again you can choose to opt for less riding per your preference.

  • Routing and Scheduling: The itinerary we provide can change on a certain day in terms of restaurant time, road closures, and weather conditions. Our leaders are fully trained at offering alternate plans and solutions. We seek your cooperation and promise to deliver the best vacation experience regardless.

"Riding the Trace--loved almost no cars. The weather was spectacular. It was great to speak with the guides before we left on the trip. They clarified things for us, The guides were excellent. The trip was well planned. I always felt I could stop at any time if the biking were beyond me."

Fran Porter

"This whole trip was a great experience. I appreciate the attempt to keep it interesting by taking side trips off of the Trace. There was a lot of history to learn about along the way, topped off with some awesome biking, delicious food, and comfortable accommodations... really can't do much better. Thank you!"
