Arizona Bike Tour

A Sonoran Sojourn in Saguaro National Park

This unique vacation in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona is set against a backdrop of spectacularly diverse scenery. Sojourn is the most experienced bike tour and operator in southern Arizona. Outside Magazine has touted our trip as a "life-list-worthy tour" and   Men's Journal also recently highlighted the tour.

Stands of giant saguaro cacti line your way as you tour the east and west sides of Saguaro National Park by bike and by foot. Hike with a naturalist in stunning Sabino Canyon where red rock cliffs tower above the stream that sustains this desert oasis. Ride your bike the length of the Canyon during twilight as the magnificent hues cast over rock cliffs.

Bike past towering red rock mountains on a road so remote that you're more likely to encounter cows than cars.  Sweeping views extend into Mexico on a tour route often descibed by guests as one of their all-time favorite rides.

Pull on a pair of cowboy boots at historic Rancho de La Osa, a Sojourn exclusive. This remote guest ranch has served as a getaway for politicians and movie stars such as Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, John Wayne, Lyndon Johnson, and author Zane Grey. Your bicycle will be an afterthought as wrangler-led horseback rides provide a different perspective of the unique southwestern landscape. Join a guided hike and bird watch with the owner of the ranch or relax in the pool and hot tub.  Kick up your heels in the Rancho's Cantina that evening while two-stepping with wranglers.

Stays at these historic guest ranches add an immensely authentic component to your vacation. Each offers a truly unique experience while providing an atmosphere of understated elegance.  Dine on traditional Sonoran and gourmet cuisine. Even dusk unveils something special as desert sunsets cast pink and orange hues over the vast skyline, ushering a vivid display of brilliant stars into the light pollution-free sky.

Tour the renowned Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum's living collections and gardens on the walking trails of this fascinating natural setting. Join a docent-led walk and watch raptors in free flight. Visit Tubac, a popular southwestern artist colony, and shop for authentic local crafts, jewelry and art.  Enjoy an exhilarating morning bike ride through the Coronado National Forest. The views over the valley from our destination vantage point are breathtaking and elusive wildlife species are sometimes spotted during our morning visit.

This region of Arizona is also considered one of the top birding destinations in the world and rare species are frequently sited during migration to and from South America.  The early morning hours offer prime opportunities for spotting unusual resident as well as migratory species.

Our season in southern Arizona is highlighted by remarkable weather for bike tours with daytime temperatures typically in the mid 60’s to 70’s.  The bike tour and hiking route options offer terrain and mileage suited to a variety of ability levels and interests with cycling choices ranging from 12 to 70 miles on given days.

Plan to make your reservations well in advance as this destination historically sells out very quickly.
